Homelessness has become a public health crisis, especially in Los Angeles where the population has surged 75 percent in 6 years, from 32,000 to 55,000. Three out of four homeless people live in cars, campers, tents and lean-tos, by far the biggest single group of unsheltered people in any U.S. city.

Housing for Health, a division within the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services was established to provide housing and support services to homeless individuals with complex medical and behavioral health issues, high utilizers of county services, and other vulnerable populations. They employ a “whatever it takes approach” to assist clients in their transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
